A closer look at a powerful duo

Writer Stella Pope Duarte will explore two of the most infamous women figures in Mexican history and lore: La Malinche and La Llorona.

The author will offer the audience a panoramic view of the two as figures who paved the way for the highest-regarded female in Latino history, the Virgin of Guadalupe. Duarte (who is working on her third book, The Women of Juarez), gives her free presentation at 6 p.m. Sept. 13 at Bulpitt Auditorium, Phoenix College , 1202 W. Thomas Road, Phoenix.
