Mesa cop resorts to unprofessional behavior

Although immigrant rights advocates have been complaining about a rising level of spitefulness by counter protesters lately, they were astounded when a Mesa cop flipped off peaceful demonstrators.

Sgt. Mike Doherty, a 20-year-member of the department, admitted to MPD investigators he was teed off by the protestors, so made the obscene gesture as he drove by the Immigrants Without Borders protest – in uniform.

The department – headed by Police Chief George Gascon and which has been building good relations with the city’s Hispanic residents – immediately launched an investigation. At press time, disciplinary action was pending against the Mesa cop.
