Satisfying appetites for food and music

Tradiciones packs in the locals

Tradiciones, the restaurant adjacent to Phoenix Ranch Market at 16th Street and Roosevelt (see Spanish aisles, page 48) has caused as much a stir as the mercado whose brick wall it shares. Complete with a small plaza (shown here), an outdoor grill, and a friendly interior with boatloads of border atmosphere (¡mariachis!), Tradiciones packs in the locals. A Sunday brunch, available at $12 per person, promises an culinary outing with a cultural sound track (¡mariachis!). Among menu items are a cilantro margarita ($5.95), shrimp coctel appetizer ($7.99), and combination plates (enchilada, taco, rice and beans, $7.95). Nice touches, such as jugo de tamarindo ($3) helps the restaurant live up to its hype. Did we mention the mariachis?
