Valle del Sol has announced this year’s award honorees for their annual Profiles of Success event taking place this September. The honoree for Hall of Fame is Sylvia Echave Stock, former president and CEO of Mountain Park Health Center. Tempe Councilman Ben Arredondo and Felix V. Corona will be awarded with the Special Recognition Award. For the Raúl Yzaguirre Community Leadership Award the honoree is Helios Education Foundation Chairman Vince Roig. Other honorees in the category of Exemplary Leadership are CVS/Caremark Vice President of Finance Soledad Brozek, Gubernatorial Deputy Chief of Staff Anna María Chávez, and Tolleson Mayor Adolfo Gámez. Leo V. Valdez, senior vice president with Hutchison, Shockey, Erley and Company, will receive the Rosa Carrillo Torres Humanitarian Award. Raúl Aguirre, owner of REA Communications, is the honoree for the Lorraine Lee Latino Advocacy Champion Award. For Latino Excellence in Arts and Literature, Kathy Cano Murillo, a local artist and syndicated columnist, will be the recipient. Profiles of Success is Valle del Sol’s major fundraiser to benefit behavioral health, human service and leadership development programs and recognizes the contributions of Latinos in the community. I've only seen three of those individuals out there in the community doing things with the community rolling up their sleeves. I judge a person's commitment and activism by their ability to walk arm in arm with other activists.
The others I am suspecting because of their high-ranking positions with corporations? what? do they give to Valle Del Sol is that what buys you an award these days? or is it that they got promoted to a position that they may help in asking for funds.
