Betsy Rodiles legacy

Betsy Rodiles legacy

Jose Rodiles, general manager of 95.1 FM Latino Vibe, addressed a crowd of hundreds in March as he and his 15-year-old daughter Gabriela unveiled a banner announcing the inaugural Betsy Rodiles YMCA Family Fun Run.

“This day is a celebration of my wife’s life,” he said.

Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Rodiles died suddenly with a brain aneurism earlier that month, Betsey loved the Ahwatukee Foothill Family YMCA where she did much of her training for marathons and 5K runs.

After her passing, the YMCA wanted to show their love and appreciation for her – and did so by renaming the annual spring Family Fun Run in her honor.

But Betsy left more than inspiration to stay as healthy as she did before her unexpected death. She left parts of herself that went to give life and sight to others. A young man received her eyes, and will see his world. Others received vital organs that saved their lives.

Betsy’s daughter Gabriela says that like her father, she felt honored that the YMCA was renaming the annual Fun Run in her mother’s honor. The organ donations were the other part of her mom’s legacy.

“It’s a true testament to how my Mom lived her life, dedicating herself to heath, family and children” Gabriela says.
