MCCCD gets tech fund

The Maricopa County Community College District has received a three-year, $899,972 grant from the National Science Foundation to develop its High-Tech Workforce Initiative.

The initiative’s aim is to educate technicians for high-tech fields. The project will strengthen partnerships between Chandler-Gilbert Community College, GateWay Community College, Glendale Community College and Mesa Community College, Maricopa Community College’s Center for Workforce Development, Maricopa Advanced Technical Education Center, and key industry partners, including Intel, Avnet and ON Semiconductor.

The project also will work in conjunction with several school districts, including Mesa Unified School District, Chandler Unified School District and Gilbert Unified School District.

A task force will be established to ensure that the technological education programs are responding to the changing needs of industry and the economy.
