Yzaguirre honored

Raul Yzaguirre was honored with the Sargent Shriver Award for Equal Justice

Raul Yzaguirre, executive director of the Center for Community Development and Civil Rights for Arizona State University, and former President of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), was honored with the Sargent Shriver Award for Equal Justice: For Distinguished Achievement in Building Collaborations to Overcome Poverty.

Yzaguirre joined ASU in January 2005 after stepping down as president of NCLR. He continues to advocate for social justice through the center's civic engagement programs as well as speaking engagements and thought leadership of the Latino community.

The Shriver Center, founded in 1967, champions law and policy promoting equal opportunity and support for low-income individuals, families, and communities so that they can escape poverty permanently. The Shriver Award recognizes the extraordinary spirit, talent, leadership, and commitment that are associated with Sargent Shriver in using common sense strategies through law, policy, communication, and individual action to further the ideals of a just society.
