A royal Spanish daughter who inherited the throne from her mother, falls victim to politics and insanity
Surreal, sad and sordid: these adjectives aptly describe the true, bizarre tale of Juana La Loca, a royal Spanish daughter (thought to be schizophrenic) who inherited the throne from her mother, Isabella, only to fall victim to Machiavellian politics.
Teatro Bravo presents playwright Miguel Sabido's version of this passionate love story steeped in madness and intrigue Jan. 19-20 and 26-28. The play will be seen in Spanish, although an English synopsis is available to theatergoers. The production is directed by Daniel Jaquez.
A pay-what-you-can preview will be given at 8 p.m. Jan. 19, with regular 8 p.m. shows Jan. 20 and 26; a matinee is scheduled at 2 p.m., Jan. 28. Teatro Bravo performs in John Paul Theatre, Phoenix College, 1202 W. Thomas Road. Tickets are $15 general admission; $12 students and seniors; group rates also are available.
