New Rio Salado VP
Dr. Chris Bustamante has been named as vice president of community development and student services
Dr. Chris Bustamante, Rio Salado College dean of academic affairs, has been named as the vice president of community development and student services.
Before coming to Rio Salado College, Bustamante spent more than a decade as the Maricopa Community College District director of government relations & external affairs, the director of state relations and the associate director of government relations.
His new duties include institutional advancement, community outreach, military initiatives, business and government partnerships and student enrollment services.
"I am very pleased to be back in the position to establish relations with the community and developing partnerships that will provide more educational opportunities for our constituency that will really serve our community well," says Bustamante.
The fifth of seven children, Bustamante is the only one of his siblings to graduate from a university. Raised in a small mining town near Marana, Bustamante excelled in academics. It was an older sister who convinced him he was college material and vowed to see him complete his schooling.
Unfortunately his sister was killed in a tragic car accident just a few months before his high school graduation. His father, who worked in the mines for 32 years, also played an instrumental role in Bustamante's life. Bustamante dedicated his doctoral dissertation to both his father and his sister.
