Qwest signs Brazilian basketball star

Qwest Communications has signed NBA player and 2006-2007 “Sixth Man of the Year” award-winner Leandro Barbosa to be their spokesperson.

 

A guard for the Phoenix Suns, Barbosa will appear at Qwest-sponsored cultural and community events and will also represent Qwest in ad campaigns.

“Qwest is honored to work with Leandro; he is a talented ball player and a strong community ambassador with the kind of charisma we can all admire,” says Pat Quinn, president for Qwest in Arizona.

“I choose to work with Qwest because I believe in their commitment to keeping people connected to the people and things that are important to them,” says Barbosa. “Qwest is a solid corporate citizen and I’m excited to work with them to support our communities.”

Barbosa is originally from Brazil and recently participated in the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders Americas program in his native country, providing basketball instruction and supporting community outreach programs to children from more than 20 countries. In the 2006-2007 season, Barbosa posted career highs in scoring, assists, rebounds, steals and minutes played.
