Carmela Ramirez, co-creator of the Latino Institute for the city of Phoenix, is also a well-known singer and entertainer. In her role at the institute, Ramirez and colleagues Albert Santana and Diane Figueroa produce public events that connect the local Hispanic population to vital resources for health, education, business and the arts.

A: Sarah Vaughan, Diane Schuur and Celia Cruz.
A: When I retire out of the City of Phoenix, expand my work into producing music, stage/film and screenwriting, all the while using my personal profile to empower my community, youth and the arts.
A: Every song is a challenge… it's a very personal interpretation when delivered.

Q: In your opinion, what's the best channel of communication between cultures?
A: The Arts. They don't even need words. All cultures thrive on sound, colors, theater, dance -- the art form speaks for itself. That's why you will always see some form of performing arts when heads of nations meet. We allhave the arts in common. It opens doors to communication worldwide.
A: Ms. Twining, my high school drama teacher who opened my soul up to the performing arts. She tapped into my talents to interpret life, emotion, love, laughter, all within a few minutes on a stage.
