On the Calle
Letters to the editor
Editor,
In reference to your quips about whether Governor Napolitano stays or goes in the event of a Democratic presidential administration is certainly an issue when the time comes. However, I will state unequivocally that having watched the Anglo male media pundits take Senator Hillary Clinton and subject her to incredible male bias and jabs should leave Latino Perspectives a bit more wary than to refer to Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (Calif.) as “matronly.” Not a good way to go considering she has been a champion of causes for the national Latino community and past Chair of the Hispanic Congressional Caucus. A little respect is in order here.

Editor,
Claudia Provencio did a piece last month (June LPM) on How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer and she incorrectly mentioned that the movie was filmed in Yuma which in fact was filmed in Somerton which is 12 miles south of Yuma. I saw the movie and I couldn’t believe my eyes when at the very beginning of the film, the water tank with Somerton written across it was in the scene and then a few minutes later some graffiti with our name of Somerton, “SOMA” was also showed. I was familiar with all the locations because I was raised in Somerton. This really is not a huge correction to most but it is for some of us who are in Somerton since we have never had a filming in our town before. Yuma on the other hand has had many. I love reading your magazine…gracias.

Editor’s Note: The publicity media kits for the movie misidentified the film’s location as Yuma.
