Honk if proud of being Hispanic

The proposed plate says it all: “Hispanics Discovered Florida.” The National Hispanic Corporate Achievers wants the state’s 3.6 million Hispanics to be proud of that historic fact. NHCA is a group that sponsors minority job fairs. They proposed the specialty plate to honor Juan Ponce de Leon’s landing on Florida’s shore in 1513 – before the arrival of English-speaking settlers. The Hispanic honor plate is being reviewed by Florida highway officials. State Sen. Gary Siplin, a Democrat in a heavily Hispanic district, supports the proposal.
